Beyond Nullius in Verba

The process of human development in the modern era post industrial revolution has been guided by various principles. Among them one prominent epithet is Nullius in verba. This principle, which mean, in no one’s word, though primarily for Natural Sciences used as a proxy for repeatable experiments, has been used abundantly in various fields of study. Though the principle has served its purpose for the modern era, with every increasing complexities and diversities of human society, the study of which would need to go Beyond Nullius in verba. Advait World is a journey in this new direction. Advait World will be a platform for enquiry into various fields with new frameworks developed with the help of the wisdom of Ancient India in particular Advait.  Advait World will, to begin with, deal with issues of local governance and corresponding policy. The discourse will certainly include discussions on technology, sustainability, inclusion, and, economic and social development in India.

Advait Fellowship

The Advait Fellowship is housed under the Aegis of Advait World.

This document may serve the purpose for a Charter for the

Advait Fellowship in the course of time. This document is to elucidate the aspiration behind the Advait Fellowshipto promote ‘No Doctrine’ as an all pervasive ‘Doctrine’ for governance across known intelligence in all perceivable essence and provide guidance in the future for the governance of the fellowship itself, and to ensure mechanism for sustainability without loosing the purpose of its genesis.

The strength of a Civilization may very well be judged by many attributes. Yet at its core the strength lies in the interpretation of the unknown.

The relationship with the unfathomable defines a Civilization. The coming to terms with incertitude has a few valid paths, some may find solace in belief, or some may continue seeking. The age of enlightenment has found no path of certitude. The path is unknown. Acceptance of the unknown itself is a path. This acceptance leads to universal toleration. Non-acceptance will not lead to universal toleration. There is a huge profundity in realising unknown, from there emerges a knowledge system. That is the genesis of the Indic Knowledge system.

As the world revels in transition from societal, ecological, economic, scientific, political, and philosophical, the traditional knowledge systems of the age of enlightenment have been stressed. Now a more novel path is required. Now is the time to go deeper into the past to seek guidance to the future. In a period that is seeking to alter intelligence to a new paradigm, old wisdom is sought after.

The Indic Knowledge system had very beautifully created a relationship of the known to the unknown. It had created an objective of seeking an optimum in paradigm of bounded rationality served with heuristics. This in essence was a fascinating resonance of the archetype or collective unconscious could attain. Indic Knowledge systems gave simple answers in an environment which has inherent underlying complexity fraught with unknowns. It created a system of governance which led to fleeting equilibrium way in the past. There is a need to recreate that pattern of governance again and for that the first step will be to create a better understanding of the Indic Knowledge System.

The ‘Advait Fellowship’ is a first step.

In our present times there are various Fellowships, creating a circle of knowledge that creates a resonance within its Fellows and at times resonates in the world outside as well. One eminent Fellowship has its motto as, nullius in verba, which means, in no one’s word. One interpretation of, nullius in verba, is, self realization. In a way self realization is another name for evidence based realization. Accepting what is unknown and stating it as unknown is that essence of self realization; and, acceptance of evidence which makes Indic Knowledge systems stand out with a considerable distance. This also ensures that societal understanding of nature as we see it to that of the nature of truth does not need two different silos, one that of Natural Sciences and the other of Theology or Hermeneutics. This is an important aspect, treating these as silos may be an important short coming of the Occidental age of enlightenment. If our understanding of Truth is compartmentalized, then one will take us forward, and the other will take us backwards. There is a distinct possibility that we in these circumstances we may not remain enlightened anymore. It is to save us from any serious possibility from the return to the dark ages, we need a global revival of the Indic Knowledge system.
