Youth Panel Discussion: A Unique Initiative to Strengthen Transdisciplinary Approaches Among Youths

Youth panel discussion under student development program (5th June to 3rd July 2021) was organized by Department of Environment, Vivekananda College, University of Delhi in collaboration with Daulat Ram College and Acharya Narendra Dev College (ANDC), University of Delhi. The convener of this program was Dr. Seema Sharma (Assistant Professor), Dept. of Environment, Vivekananda College.  The college coordinator for Daulat Ram College Was Dr Sarita Nanda (Associate Professor) and Ms Raman Arora (Assistant Professor) and for ANDC college, it was Dr Gagan Dhawan (Associate Professor)

The program was launched online on 5th June at the occasion of World Environment Day. During the launch of this program, Dr Hina Nandrajog, (Officiating Principal, Vivekananda College) highlighted the need and importance of this program. She said that this program is definitely going to help students learn new things and explore new ideas. Dr. Sabita Roy (Principal, Daulat Ram College) shared her thoughts on how to save environment and how one can individually contribute in it. She also highlighted the need of action at the local level and how this program can promote this understanding among the students. Prof. Ravi Toteja (Officiating Principal, ANDC) said that this program is need of this hour to engage students in a constructive discussion.

Youth participants from various universities across India such IIT BHU, Goa University, West Bengal University of Technology, Symbiosis Institute of Computer Studies and Research, O. P. Jindal Global University, Amity University, Manipal Institute of Technology Karnataka and University of Delhi participated in the program.

Dr Seema Sharma, being author and instructor explained the objective, theme and format of this program. In her conversation, she emphasized the need and importance of transdisciplinary approaches in teaching and learning methods. She said that these approaches are very important for young mind to learn and understand. These learnings will definitely guide young mind to understand real world problems as well as new age wicked problems.

She also highlighted the problems of young mind who are not being able to think much now a days and mostly due to the easy access of social media contents and continuous scrolling habit. She mentioned that now a days young mind is spending most of the time online scrolling things and have developed certain habits which are killing even the normal thought process of individuals.

The student development program is designed in a way that will definitely shape the vision of young mind and will inculcate the sense of thoughtfulness among young population. It will also help young mind to develop the sense of responsibility and accountability being a citizen. The format of the program, i.e. what is the problem, why is the problem, what are the gaps and what is the solution will definitely bring young mind close to think of a sustainable solution of an identified problem.

The program was concluded successfully on 3rd June 2021. The program got excellent feedback from the participants (graph shown below). 60.5% of the participants rated the program excellent, 34.9% of them rated as very good and only 4.7% rated as good.

Jindal Global University), Deepanshi (Shaheed Rajguru College), Gauri Lakhmani (Daulat Ram College), Ashutosh Bahuguna (Delhi Technological University), Dipansh Jain (IIT BHU), Soumya Bhatnagar (University of Goa), Saanvi Bhattacharya (West Bengal University of Technology), Riya Agarwal (Sushant School of Art and Architecture), Mahek Chawla (Vivekananda College). Karan Bhar (ANDC)

The student coordinators and ecoclub members who did excellent coordination throughout to make this program successful were Priyanshi Bhatnagar, Mitushi Sharma, Ishi Girdhar, Ridhhima Chopra, Mahek Thakur, Vandana, Mahi Tyagi, Aakansha Kagra, Parul Valecha and Pranjal from Vivekananda College, Ankita from ANDC college and Tanisha Gulati from Daulat Ram College.
